Happier Than Ever Album Review

Ava Rollwagen, Reporter

Billie Eilish’s newest album Happier Than Ever was released on July 30, 2021.  The album includes the songs, Getting Older, I Didn’t Change My Number, Billie Bossa Nova, my future, Oxytocin, GOLDWING, Lost Cause, Halley’s Comet, Not My Responsibility, OverHeated, Everybody Dies, Your Power, NDA, Therefore I Am, Happier Than Ever, and Male Fantasy.

Billie Eilish is 20 years old. She writes Alternative music, and released her first album in 2017. Billie now has 3 albums and two recent singles out. Most people know Billie from her two most famous songs, ‘Ocean Eyes’ and ‘Bad Guy.’ Billie released her first album in 2017 when she was only 16 years old and she wrote ‘Ocean Eyes’ when she was only 14 years old. The Happier than Ever album consists of just a few more upbeat songs than slower paced songs. ‘Halley’s Comet’ and ‘Everybody Dies’ are the most melancholic. Billie Bossa Nova is the most upbeat song in the album, however there are many more than just that. I would say that ‘Therefore I Am’ is the most mainstream song, because it was the second single released for the album.

Billie Eilish is my absolute all time favorite artist. Her music is so artistic and expressive. This album has made such an impact on my life and I enjoy every song. Billie is able to express so many emotions in a short 2-4 minute song. She has a way of immersing the listener into her heartache and personal growth. This album really shows how versatile she is with her music style. The couple songs that stood out to me the most were Halley’s Comet, my future, Getting Older, and of course, ‘Happier Than Ever’ because I feel these songs are the most heartfelt and meaningful. Billie Eilish’s music is something I am willing to put hours into listening to and breaking down what each and every song means.

Billie did an absolutely amazing job with the entire album. However, there are a few songs I decide to avoid once in a while. The main one I skip over is ‘Not My Responsibility’. The only reason is because this song uses mainly synthesizers along with Billie speaking in one tone. “The song is mainly about body image and all the things we were taught to think about bodies,” said Billie according to Story of Song. I love the overall message of the song, it’s just not something you can sing at the top of your lungs.

Overall this album is such an amazing masterpiece. I think the best word to explain this album is ethereal. It has such a wide range of emotions, you can pick any song to listen to on full blast through the halls for any occasion. I would definitely recommend listening to this entire album on repeat.
