Anderson Paak x Vans Old Skool

Anderson Paak and Vans are back with two new takes on the Old Skool and a new offering of apparel/accessories. Inspired by Paak’s two young sons, Soul and Shine, both shoes are colorful, whimsical, and boast a bright-eyed energy, making for an apt follow-up to the LA-based musician’s debut Vans capsule from October.

First, there is the “Ziti” which consists of the vibrant colors of blue, purple, green, and yellow suede, Jazz Stripes, midsoles, laces, and eyestays are done up in white and the kid-sized iteration adds an extra touch of dripping pink print along its sole. Next arrives the “Soulito,” which has no multi-colored styling but has a full light purple corduroy upper. It may be monochromatic, but that doesn’t mean it has any lacking of detail. The toeboxes and tongues feature an ultra-thick wale to ramp up the textured detailing while quarters and heels provide a finer wale for contrast. Much like its counterpart, the “Soulito” is rounded off by white Jazz Stripes, laces, and midsoles. Both pairs are completed with a “Yes Lawd” hit on the inner heel, continuing the ethos established on the aforementioned first collection.

As a person who bought the first pair called “Ziti”, I do enjoy these shoes. I like the vibrant colors how comfortable they are, and I do like the suede design. I plan on getting the other pair called “Soulito”, because I generally like the quality of these shoes and I like the midsole that it provides. Since the Ziti pair is suede they can be difficult to clean, whereas, even water can stain them. I recommend them for more of a dry climate.

Anderson Paak’s collection was released to the public on December 11, 2020. Both shoes are available in men’s, kid’s, and toddler sizing. With retail pricing of $40 to $110. If you prefer a more whimsical and color based shoe, I recommend these.
