Columbine Started It

Melissa Masters, Reporter

In Littleton, Colorado, at Columbine High School, two teenage boys did something no one expected. On the day of April 20th, 1999, twelve students and one teacher lost their lives and 20 more injured. The two teenage boys, Eric Harris, 18 and Dylan Klebold, 17, originally planned on bombing the school, shooting at the students who survived the explosion, then driving their cars which had bombs in them into a crowded area.

Thankfully, the bombs never went off. Although, the bombs not going off didn’t hold them back. Harris and Klebold proceeded to walk into their school and shoot random people, most being in the library, then turned the guns on themselves.

This however, is just the beginning. There have been more than 240 school shootings, dozens more that are not widely reported, and at least ten deadly shootings that had five or more victims (See below). The question on everyone’s mind is, “Would school shootings still be prevalent had Columbine never happened?” That’s a question that we will never be able to answer.
